Help! 1985 Spree Transmission Problem?

Post by Spree-tardo »

My son and I have just obtained a 1985 Spree that has been sitting for the past 10-12 years. We just got it running by replacing the spark plug, air filter, and cleaning and soaking the carb and replacing the fuel lines. Once we got it running, we noticed that there was a vibration/shuddering when accelerating. The vibration feels like it is coming from the transmission area, but with limited experience with these machines, we're not certain.

Is there a drive belt (or something) that requires adjustment?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Sounds to me like ure belt I slipping takeoff the side cover and check for belt shavings if there are a lot which I assume their will be ure gonna need a new belt. Download ure manual from wikispreedia and measure the belt to be sure .... If belt checks out fine could be ure clutch is too worn out aswell

The Spree does not use a transmission, the ratio is fixed.
If the belt looks ok, the next step might be to lightly sand the clutch shoes.

If you washed it you could have gotten the clutch and the belt wet from an unsealed left side cover. Mine will do that. I run around for a little while and it goes back to working properly.

Thank you for the replies, the belt appears OK so I will take a look at the clutch. Thanks again!
