Spree looses 5-10 mph after running for a few miles

Post by sublok »

Questions - my spree runs great starts over just fine with one push or one kick. It doesnt have a rough idle and the intake and mix screws are set properly.

I sometimes have the the problem of after i ride for about 3 -4 miles ( which it has no problem crusing about 35 mph slowing and then accelerating back up to 35) when i stop and then accelerate again it bogs down like it has no power and wont even accelerate past 10mph like there is no torque and comes dreadfuly close to just bogging down and choking out..

.What i have found that is a temp fix for the problem - is just been getting off and putting the kick stand down and giving it full throttle for about 20 seconds and then it runs just fine ( but will only go about 30 mph ??) Its not that big of deal except i general ride on heavy traffic road with big cars and truck behind me honking... And it not always convient to just pull over as there are not always side walks...

Any ideas?

I just cleaned the carb a few days ago
I checked and changed the air filter.
Screws are set fine
the lines are clear

im perplexed.

Sounds like it's overheating to me. Try running a colder plug (extended operation plug in manual). Also check the oiler operation using the procedure in the manual (pull the oiler and check for 1 drip/10 seconds. I assume that Honda oil is meant for oil injection systems.

Check for a vacuum leak in the petcock line as well, or a blockage in the fuel line. I'm thinking that you're draining the bowl out while running and the petcock's not keeping up.

HOT RUNNING

Post by DENMANSHAFFER »

SURE SOUNDS TO ME LIKE IT IS OVERHEATING WHEN PULLING A LOAD (YOU). I WOULD TRY TO MAKE IT RUN A LITTLE RICHER, RATHER THAN FOOLING WITH THE PLUG. THE RICHER IT RUNS, THE COOLER IT RUNS.

RAISE THE JET NEEDLE ONE NOTCH BY MOVING THE CIRCLIP TOWARD THE SHARP END AND SEE IF THAT HELPS.

hey thanks for the suggestions... i am fairly sure its not over heating and as i said it doesnt happend all the time.. its really just more of an incovience to me. as my bike is my main form of transportation and i have to keep it smoothly running.. though i just bought an mb5 an want to get that one working..

I will give those things a try .. i guess it could use a new plug.. what ngk bpr4hs or bpr8hs ? the cold climate or the the extended riding>?

Thanks for the help.. i will check those things on sat after work...
