Where OKOs Go to Die?

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

How long does an OKO carb last?

Previously leak-free OKO 26 - less than a year old - gradually starts leaking out the bowl overflow tube. A drop at first, and within a month or so enough to produce a 15" premix stain over 3 days. Changed the float needle assembly for new with no improvement. Could the needle bore be so worn that the needle goes catty-wompus and fails to plug its fuel inlet? Using an admittedly old Cone O' Stone filter inline. I hate having to close my manual shutoff.

Greetings:

I wouldn't say this is "Bad Luck" necessarily, because the carb performs pretty well. Did yours start to leak or some other issue?

I had a 24 and a 30 OKO, neither of which I kept as long as this one. I'm just trying to get feeback from others - what to expect in terms of durability from these carbs. Do they in fact wear out, or do I have an atypical issue?

are you using the clear bowl?

my clear bowl started to melt, deform and caused some similar issues.

every oko that i have leaking issues with, is on a scooter with a non stock fuel tank.

Thanks TJz. So the surprising thing is that mine did NOT leak for so many months?
I may ping TreatLand to see what their experience has been also. Pretty tempted to try another carb, but the Donut fitment to the CT with any other brand is dicey.

Greetings:

I didn't realize it before when I said "less than a year old." The carb actually went on in March 2011, so it's actually 18 months old, according to This Thread. Maybe 18 months from now I'll be leaking too?

I'm just saying that when a fully functioning petcock is taken out of the equation, OKO carbs will leak over time.

With my setup my petcock is a Lil iffy at times but mine did leak worked great for a few months then went on a cleaning spree multiple times still had issues not sayin its all because of the oko but went to a kehin carb which fits boot very well and no more issues..... Tjamz has it now not sure if he used it for parts or left it.....

I believe its operator error, my carbs never leak but the throttle needle will wear which most people don't know about.
some people dream of speed, i own your dreams!
