'85 Spree NQ50

Post by '85HS »

I have a Honda Spree NQ50. It wont start more than a couple seconds, most times wont start at all. I have put in a new Bystarter, cleaned the carburator and have installed a new battery. the spark plug has plenty of spark and is gapped correctly. Checked the compression, it's supposed to be 114psi, when tested it read just under 80psi. when trying to start it floods the cylinder, i have adjust the needles back to factory settings, but no luck. Air needle 1 7/8 out and stop throttle out about 2 turns.
Any ideas? Or help? It'd be much appreciated!

80 psi is low but it should start flooding sounds like a carb/reed issue. Clean your carb again on average it takes people three tries to get it right. Pay close attention to the pilot circuit (aka small hole next to main jet) This is almost always the problem. I also believe 114 psi is the minimum the manual allows so it may also be time for some new rings and a hone.

put a little 2 stroke oil down the spark plug hole and do a compression test again, if the psi comes up to 114 or better then you need new rings and a good hone as was said earlier. and you might want to clean the carb again. nobody gets it right the first or second time. best bet is to soak in a carb dip over night. did you check the needle and seat? if you needle doesnt have the black on the end it might not seal right. also check the float measurement. it could be off and wont let the needle shut the fuel off.

Thanks guys!
I finally got it running, needing a new gasket on the exhaust and a new spark plug. i re adjusted the needles.
But now I have some new problems, its burning through fuel really fast and it will only run about 18-19 mph

1. its a spree dont expect anything over 25 mph
2. The speedo is probably off (as much as 5mph)
3. Your runnning at 80 psi compression not very efficent

your fuel issue could be a carb issue

Before you replace the exhaust gasket remove the muffler and clean out the exhaust port in the cylinder. If you don't know how, shout and I will help you.
