New guy top end problems.

Hi
New guy here. Just picked up an 86 spree and an 85 aero50. Spree runs like a bat outa he-double sippystraws but I need to de wax it to paint it. no big. The Aero50 on the other hand has no top end. Cleaned the carb, tested the fuel valve, changed the bypass, fixed an electrical issue (Made some improvement) maybe I need to BBQ the exhaust and do a compression test? The manual says the drive system could be the top end problem and I havent checked that put either. I did notice that the rear wheel is slightly bent and wobles a bit. Could this affect the transmission shifting?

By the way, I am in Pismo beach Ca. if there are people near me who want to ride, let me know.

Thanks

John

didnt you say it doesnt have a top end??? you will need a pitson cylinder and rings for it to run lol? Assuming you do have some sort of top end on it you need to do a compression test with the throttle wide open to get an accurate reading..

lol, It has a "top end" with a low top speed. I will check the compression asap. Thanks. Would the reeds have anything to do with it? Maybe a dumb question but I have never done much with 2 strokes.

P.S. what do you want for a front brake cable for a spree? wil it fit my 86?

Low top speed? like what? 25 is normal. Pismo huh, more of a quad buggy riding place. Cool spot though I used to go to my Uncles place in Oceano when I was a kid and ride there.

Yea about 25, but I thought it would be a bit quicker. The spree does 30 on a flat run.
BTW. I am in Oceano and I work at the dunes. I just put Pismo because more people know the name.

I need a front brake cable for the 86 spree. Got one?
Also looking for a kick start setup from an 86 for the 85 aero. Got that?

Ok, Did a compression test and found about 110 to 112 psi WOT. Fired it up and it starts right away and idles great. throttles up about 1/2 way and starts to bog and pop. It was run without the air clraner for IDK how long (bought it that way) If the piston is toast then I think I want to do a big bore kit and maybbe a custom variator. Sugjestions? What do ya think?

P.S. I am posting in a diffrent thread also to fish for more advice.

you should be up over 120 psi. but the symptoms you explain sounds more like a carb issue to me.

Cleaned the carb and it looked great, it was rather clean before I took it apart. Thinking compression is the problem? Can I tear it down and see what condition the parts are in and decide if I need new parts or just refresh the rings and gaskets?

Thanks :?

yea tear it apart measure the cylinder size and ring gap and see if its up to spec a new set of rings and a hone might be all she needs.

Sounds to me to be a carb problem also. You may think the carb is clean, but clean it again making sure all the passages are clear. Finicky things, these 2 strokes.

Be sure to Foch on the small pilot passage. As well as the emulsion tube (tube with holes in it.
