Modify how? What do you want it to do differently?

Greetings:

The larger front pulley is easy - Stock Ruckus variator can be fitted with just a little shaving around the starter housing for clearance up to 94mm pulley diameter. You simply re-use the stock AF05 boss. Its inside diameter fits the skinnier SE/05 crank while the outer diameter matches the Ruckus, Metro and SA/16 variator.

The rear ZX pulley isn't so simple. That pulley takes an 18mm wide belt. In order to make the space up front, shims must be used. The splined section of the 05 crank isn't wide enough to insert said shims. The only way I can see to make it work is to dismantle the stock SE/05 crank, machine and install a longer Drive segment. Crank disassembly requires a book on Crank Voodoo, big brass hammers, a Serious hydraulic press and talent usually possessed only by toothless, wrinkled old codgers with gray pony tails.

The Stock Ruckus variator is still a worthwhile upgrade, as are the Malossi and Polini and other Aftermarket units.

I don't think you can do a dio conversion on that engine but a keli front pulley and stage 6 clutch will get you started along with a bore kit, carb & gears.
some people dream of speed, i own your dreams!

yes a zx setup does work ive got that setup on my se50 .The rear pully fits but there is some grinding is needed so the belt doent rub on the front pully i shimmed mine as far as possible that front pully must be lined up perfect with the splines on the crank and the 14mm nut that holds it all together MUST be tight a tad tighter than factory specs .I replaced that nut with a nylock nut to insure it dont wiggle loose.Oh and yes you need to run a 18mm wide belt you will lose a little bit off take off under 10mph but its not that noticeable

I wasn't sure a ZX could be fitted to the AF05. Pauly7 deserves respect for making it work, sort of. How did you shim out the kicker cover?

I suspect the problem you're having is due to the limited length of the crankshaft "Drive" end - it's not possible to shim the pulleys out wide enough to allow the wider belt to drop completely down in front. After all, the underlying purpose of the ZX trans is to make take-off a bit less agonizing with taller gears. WIth a bigger Driven pulley, take-off belt position should result in "shorter" overall gearing. But it won't work if the belt is halfway up the Drive face, defeating the basic purpose of the ZX.

Have you considered an undersized ZX belt? One of the Gates belts I bought came in at 17.5mm wide. It's a 669. Shimmed precisely, it could improve your take off.

yes you are right wheelman the belt doenst seat fully down but as i said it only affected 0 to 10mph then it was fine .To shim it out i actually cut up a spare pully boss into .5mm shims (a mate a a machine shop cut it for me im not that percise with a hacksaw) take off got better as the belt wore down with use its now about 17mm wide
