01' elite kickstart trouble

Post by bfowler »

Well I still haven't been able to correctly assemble my kick starter. Just completely lost at this point and ready to take it in to the honda dealer to get it fixed :(
Heres a video of me trying to assemble it. If anyone has a video of the kick start assembly or any additional pictures that would be great. Thanks.

Try to get in there with a screwdriver and push the big spring into position. It is under the gear preventing the gear from going all the way down.

It's been awhile since i had one apart.
You might need to unhook it from the gear, put spring into place and then use screwdriver to hook it back onto the gear after gear is in place. It can be tricky, good luck!

Greetings:

The spring hooks right on the half-moon, in that notch. The hole isn't for the spring end.

Once you have everything clean and Greased (NOT Oil!), insert the shaft through the hole in the cover, and Temporarily install the kick lever on the shaft. This gives you a handle with some leverage over the spring tension. The Service manual is pretty detailed in its assembly sequence description. P

Wheelman: Yea I put the spring end on the notch and not the hole. But the spring seems to be not sitting in the right spot. Shows in the ending of the video.
