87 Honda 50 not running

My grandpa died about 5 years ago and left this scooter. I finally got around to pulling it out of his storage shed and it wasn't running. I followed a instruction I found on getting a Honda Spree running after its been sitting. Also I took apart the carb and cleaned it out, change the spark plug, fuel filter, gas, and oil.

Now It runs but will die out. Any ideas on what else i should look at?

Also where is a good spot to source gaskets ect for this scooter?

I didn't see anything on it to verify that the filter ect was on. Ill install it and see what i get.

After its running any recommendations on how to make this thing a little more fun?

well obviously i want it running first. I loaned out my Comp tester and haven't gotten it back. I think ill go buy a new one and check that. I have a weird feeling that its probably something with the engine.

is the air screw set at 1.1/2 ate you may need to set the idle higher that may help keep it running better..

heres the manual viewtopic.php?f=11&t=8584 this will help

Compression is about 70 PSI right now, Filter installed.

It wont start unless you give it a blast of starter fluid.

Honestly maybe its easier to just rebuild the d*** thing.

never use starter fluid on a 2 cycle motor... put some oil down the plug hole it will bring up your compression back up ... the starting fluid will strip the oil off the piston and lower the compression.. the rings my be stuck to the piston that maybe why its low ..

Threw a little oil down there, cranked it a few times and then put the plug back in. It started right up like a champ, idled perfect, perfect throttle responce and then after about 20 seconds started acting like s*** again.

Bad rings?

Check this out for derestricting your SE50P:

Clean your carb. Then clean it again. When you think it's clean enough, clean it one more time for good measure. All the tiny, tiny passages need to be clean.

And yes, as swimmingfree says, you need the stock air filter in place or you will be replacing your top end.
