Blinker Issues

Post by wolf95 »

Hello,

I recently replaced my old rear stock turn signals with some after market ones, which are LED, however now they don't flash. I'm guessing it's the turn signal relay, but I'm not quite sure what would fix it, any ideas?

You need to go get an electronic relay that only needs the resistance of one bulb or no resistance at all to flash. The relays in the scooters need the resistance of two bulbs to flash. The new relay should be available at most parts shops for cars for not a lot of money, I have one on my tractor cost me 6$ same as the one that will fit a spree or the like. If you can't get a relay to work you need to take a multimeter and measure the resistance of the original bulb and get two resisters of the same value and put them in line with each of the led lights.

I added a resistor to the - side of the LEDs, however those dimmed and they still didn't blink, so I'm thinking of getting the relay, is there an easy way to tell where it is? Also did it plug right in, or did you have to rewire a few things?

Most of the scooters take a two prong relay. On the spree its in a rubber holder on the frame under the seat next to the regulator. Some scoots have them in the headlight area I think, like the 85 aero 80.

I'll tell you what, I'll borrow the electronic flasher from my tractor and try it on my spree with the rear lights disconnected, if the fronts flash which I know they will that will be a working flasher and I'll give you the part number from it if it has one so you can get one at the local parts store.

Here is the flasher I have,
http://www.princessauto.com/pal/product ... it-Flasher
I saw the same one on eBay for over $20 lol. You can see the number on the side in the picture. I bet is you show the that web page to the parts store they will have it. I'll try and test that in about two hours when I get home after my gig. Should only take a min or so. The scoter and tractor are right next to each other ;-)

I've run a 2 pin "Blazer variable load flasher, FL552/536" from the local auto parts store.
It is an electronic flasher, and will flash fine with only 1 signal lamp.
Stock Honda flag terminals fit over the flasher. It's round so you'll have to mount it differently than OEM.

It is not an LED rated flasher. The flasher will not flash correctly with all signal lamps converted to LEDs.

As long as there is one incandescent bulb it should go. The flasher in the link will flash 2 tiny standard bulbs and 2 leds at a very wide voltage range, I run my tractor light on the gen only no battery and they flash at all but the lowest throttle. I'm betting that the blazer flasher is a standard item and the princess auto flasher is the same part.

Got one of those electronic flashers. They work now, but the LEDs a little bit dim (I think it's a voltage-related issue though).
