Need HELP identifying this "AF05E" engine!

Post by 64vette »

Ok, all you wizards of scooter engines...I am having one heck of a time figuring out exactly what I have. The top end is bad and I would like to order a new one, but first need to understand what I have. It came in a 1995 Elite SA50P, but it is definitely not the original engine. It looks as if the stator wires were spliced into the Elite harness.

The transmission case says "AF05E", but is has a very high serial number (9025949).
The intake manifold and reed valve box is attached to the motor with four bolts (other AF05E's I see have only 2)
It has a Keli variator and a 64 tooth drive face gear.
The oil pump is "fixed" (i.e., does not have a lever like the dio's that increases flow)
It has a BANDO belt with part number 23100-GN2-0030
The cylinder that was on it is a Polini with a 10mm wrist pin and a 47.0mm piston (which was seized up)
The stator wire harness has been modified and spliced into the pigtail connector to fit the 95 Elite SA50P harness
It has an Arrow exhaust on it

The engine is very clean in an excellent shape. I would really like to find a new top end to get it back running again. Thanks in advance for your input. John.

It apperars to be a "SE/05 Af05E engine with an oil pump from a sb50p which is the non variated af05e engine.

I am in agreement with you. I have 2 SA 50 lx's and it is the same engine. My concern is the oil pump on that engine. If it is a fixed output pump from an SB 50P it would starve for oil in the upper rpm range.

I have a good cylinder for it. Someone stuck a af05e jug on my sa50. I got a new correct one off ebay.
