Carb problems!! Not OEM?

Post by goreyboggs »

I bought this elite with 1000 miles about a month ago. When I got it he said the carb was changed out because the original was bad. Well I did my derestrictions on it and was getting ready to up jet. Now that I got the card apart I'm not sure it's OEM. Here is a pic of the jet that came out of it. There is no number on it. Is it a stock part?

I looked again, no markings. Does it look OEM to you? The carb and jet?

It looks like a stock carb. The jet size can be hard to read, but should be stamped on the bottom (when installed) of the jet.

Its a 1999 Elite S. I think I have it figured out, I think its a spree carb. The main jet look like a spree jet. He had a few sprees laying around, I bet he took it off and put it on the Elite. I guess my question is now are the 2 interchange able? Or do I need to just sell this carb and get an elite one?

Thats not a spree carb, They don't have the nuts for the bolts to go through as instead they have easily stripped threads tapped into the pot metal they're cast from.

The jet could easily be the wrong size though since it apparently doesn't have a size stamped on it.

The jet just looks so much different then the ones that are for the Elite. The ones for the elite look like they have a larger head. This one screwed all the way up into the carb main. Man in so confused, I took it to the dealer by my house earlier today and he had no idea what it was or what it went to!!

Your carb looks much like my 'clone carb'.

"PA" is cast into the body, but PA carbs do not have a captive nut, the casting is threaded instead
Honda's float is brownish, the clone is white. It would be interesting if you have a chance to pull the float an look at the needle.
Mine is a metal tip running on a brass seat. Honda (Keihin) uses a rubber tip, and the casting is the seat.

--
My carb had the same issue with an unmarked jet. As received, the carb was not a drop in-replacement in that it was not tuned correctly. I tried swapping over the main jet, emulsion tube and throttle needle, but in my carb, the emulsion jet would not properly fit. You may have more luck.

--
The jet you have a link to is not the correct fit for the carb in hand, you want one much like came out of your carb.

-- Edit: Add link to photo topic -- here is my carb teardown

Were would be the best place to get a new (used) stock carb? I put a WTB out. But if that don't go through what would my options be?

I see you have posted to "Wanted/For Sale" for an OEM carb. That's the best way to meet up with a seller here.

If you need to make the clone carb in hand work, you can see from the prior posting the main jet, emulsion tube and throttle needle are suspect.
