so just a quick recap ....this bike only started for a few seconds after a rebuild and a port job. it has never been ridden, the motor has new crank bearings, seals, rings, ect.

the cylinder was honed so i don't think its "shiny". and a lot of "shiny" bores do in fact run so this might not be the best diagnostic tool.

1 my compression tester is bad>
2 my rings are bad/ broken from a poor install
3 my bore isnt true anymore.
4 any other ideas>

do a leak down test to rule out bad gaskets or seals, even though they are new. and or take the cyl and piston out and have them checked for proper size. are both piston rings the same? and are they installed in the correct orientation? If it matters I dont know, just a few thoughts

So I'm a bad "searcher" and when ever i do a search i find nothing on how to do a leak check. the only advice is spray a high octane airsol near your motor and see if it rev's up.

imo this is silly advice, and will pin point nothing, having no where eles to turn, i just rebuilt my entire engine ( good opportunity to port and clean etc)

dun rite: can you tell me how to perform a "leak down" test?

now to really look stupid ....... Isnt compression only concerned with the piston and cylinder head? for example, if my case gasket was leaking, would that effect compression?

who honed your cylinder ? remove the cylinder and check ring gap.Maybe who ever honed it may have honed it to much.

90-92 psi is below the 100 psi running range so im going to assume that my head is somehow damaged in a way that is not visable, as i have taken it off and see nothing wrong.

instead of tracking down a used head and piston and wasting money on rings for the second time, i just got the malossi bbk

i have my aero 80 carb hooked up the same way it is shown in this picture.
