88 Honda elite 250

Post by Mystic »

don't know where to post this so here goes. working on this 88 Honda elite 250 got everything going it runs but when it warms up it spits and sputters tested ohms on bystarter....bad or course. swapped to another not great but it ran lots better. got a new one today and it runs like crap. checked ohms the bystarter I just ordered was bad or the scoot shorted it out. any ideas what would cause the bystarter to Short? maybe regulator?

try another working one extend the wires and wire it direct to the battery if the bike runs good once warmed up then you know theres a fault somewhere else if it still runs like crap then its probably not the bystarter .Id hate to say this to you but have you tripple check all jets and lines in the carb are 100% clean and a good sealed and clean oiled filter in place

Lmao there is no way I would put that motor in a spree.....maybe an 80 frame but the spree is too tiny for all that I think.

may break down and buy a totally new carb and airfilter. may bystarter may in fact be ok the ohm tading once my analog meter was calibrated properly was .5 ohms which is good. it is either getting too much gas or too much air or vice versa

Better adjust the exhaust valve first.

Greetings:

I'm not saying it isn't the bystarter, but Pete is right to point out valve lash as a possible contributor, if not the only problem. Make sure it's within spec, because a tight valve will burn its seat very quickly.
