Af16 crank bearing removal
I am trying to remove one of the crank bearings ( the other came off in the case). I am trying to get the puller between the journal and the bearing. Right now I have it pretty tight, and it has not moved at all. Can I cut it off with a torch? Are there any other tricks? Both bearings on this motor were destroyed.

Are you using a slide hammer?
Re: Af16 crank bearing removal
No. The puller I have goes between the bearing and the journal. I have a slide hammer, but no way to connect it to the bearing race.
Re: Af16 crank bearing removal
Use a cheap puller, and grinded the edge down. so that it will slide behind the bearing as you tighten it. just enough to get a grip. good luck.
Life's a trip enjoy the ride.

Re: Af16 crank bearing removal
Greetings:
Did that crank ever get very hot, perchance?
I had the same issue with a block I bought on fEeBay. My Giant Harbor Freight Bearing Separator wouldn't budge it - not so much as a mm, despite grinding its inner edge to knife sharpness. Basically the inner race was welded on there. It finally succumbed to destructive removal using a Dremel with a reinforced cutting wheel and a cold ka-chisel. Few mars on the crank surface didn't affect the ability to remount a stock bearing, but I ended up with a Ministroker crank anyway.

Re: Af16 crank bearing removal
I use the puller wheels linked ground down to a point and heat from a torch or heat gun and then tighten back and forth as I slowly heat the inner race. Never had a bearing stay longer than 5 minutes of doing this. Enough heat should do it if applied correctly.
Re: Af16 crank bearing removal
I got the bearing off. It took a torch, a small grind stone then a cut off wheel, and finally the puller. You could see where the very center of the inner race was welded to the crank. Thanks for the help. I split another case today and both bearings stayed in the cases.
