won't start or run w/o assistance

Post by PorterGuy85 »

Hello all, I have an '85 aero nb50m that I just got all back together & saved from the scrap.

I can get it to start & run with throttle 1/2 way down or so. Wont idle or start on its own without giving it gas. Also, while it is running there is a bit of fuel trickling out of carb overflow. Sounds & runs good.

Here's the given

Carb taken apart & cleaned
Fresh gas
Fresh oil
Tried multiple airbox combos (filter on/off/ cover on/off)
New ngk plug
Carb setting tried @ 1 3/4 & 1 1/4 turned out
**Not sure where the idle screw should be set at**
Exhaust should be ok.

Heres a video clip

Thanks In advance

Fix the issue causing the fuel level to be too high. Engine sounds rich when it died in the video and a high fuel level can cause rich running.
  • Inspect the float needle for damage/wear
  • Check for foreign matter between the float needle/seat
  • Seat may require restoration Some use cotton swabs and toothpaste to polish the seat
Our wiki is currently down, but we have pics of dirty seats at this link

Thank you, I will do the following and read into the link. Any tips on pulling carb off w/o getting fuel everywhere?

You can drain the carb bowl before removal into a container. Aero carb is slightly different from the pic.

And I must mention, this was apart & clean before I put in. Especially the first few pics of the bowl. Maybe some water molecules were still inside??

Here's how it looks now, I can't seem to get it any more "glossy" but it is cleaner.

Starts with a push of a button & fires right up!!!!

Took it for a short 1 mile ride. Bogs a little while riding. but starts every time by itself.

Couple vids.

That's awesome to hear/see another one being saved from the scrap!
I like how your dog just laid there in your first vid... didn't even flinch when you started the moped up. :thumbwink:
Thanks for sharing! I hope you'll enjoy and have many fond memories with your new ride. :coolcruise:

ÔåæÔåæ A quick riding vid :-) ÔåæÔåæ

If I give it much more gas than this, she'll bog down. & eventually stall. Wait a couple of mins, startup & ride. Not enough air flow when it gets warmed up? Air/fuel screw is about 1 1/2 turns out.
