Runs bad after long rides-spark plug? Dirt in tank?

I've cleaned the carb on my SB50P several times and have had it running well, then I'll go on a long, higher speed ride with no issues. Then the next time I go to start it, it runs like crap. Usually the idle and just off idle is the worst. This last time is was running the best it has ever run, plenty of power off of idle, WOT not a problem. I went probably 25 miles yesterday mostly WOT and now it wants to die or bogs down when you crack the throttle. Starts badly as well. This has happened the last three times I've taken it on a long ride. Quick little zips here and there around the block or up and down the street have never seemed to affect it.

This seems like a carb issue again, but could it be anything to do with the plug? Do I need to be running a cooler plug?

Thanks
