Dead 1984 Aero 50

I have an Aero 50 from 1984 that I just bought. I have spark, compression, and fuel is getting to the carb. It just won't start at all though. I think the auto bystarter is broken, but the main thing I'm concerned about is when I hit the starter with the spark plug it chugs a little while but when I put the spark plug back in the chug slows down to a very sluggish cycle like it isn't getting any air through it. I took the muffler off and I can feel some build up in the port. Anyway: Is there any method I can used to clean out the exaust port in the engine without taking it all apart?
