Rebuilding a crank

Post by Drifter562 »

Hers my issue i have two cranks for an Afo5e engine, one crank has a stripped drive face side and the other has a stripped flywheel side, how would i go about rebuilding it. could I just switch the sides on them and wouldn't i have to true it afterwards?

Greetings:

First you're going to need a really Big-* hydraulic press. Honda-san has huge ones, along with Jigs that pre-align all those pieces to near-absolute True. The rest of us have to rely on precision measuring tools, runout gauges, and a nautical sextant and deadblow hammers, usually wielded by toothless guys named Gus or Crusty with greasy-gray braided hair. The flywheels have to run Parallel and in perfect synch around the crankpin. Not sayin' it can't be done, but there's a lot of work and perhaps some Luck involved. I've read little here, but quite a bit of cussin' on Harley forums. Yes, the venerable V-Twins also use a 5-piece, pressed single-pin crank, albeit in Giant (4" stroke!) sizes.

Who knows what size die I could use to fix the splines for the flywheel side and those are the same crankshafts I thought I saw on racing planet, I might be interested in having a motor built, your alot closer than Hawaii and thanks wheelman I knew the goonies and honda had some underworld pact on crafting cranks anyways my options are buying a crank or die tapping the splines, does anyone have any experience chasing threads

Does the jasil crank have the same stroke as the stocker? This is the first I've heard of this crank.

critical... rebuilding your crank could be catastrophic if done wrong... would just replace it gl :2thumbs:
