So Ive been running this corsa cylinder for a few months now and out of the blue today after running some errands it starts to make a rattling noise. Now i know about the pg exhaust rattle, and I have already swapped my exhaust to verify whether the problem stayed or not. The noise did stay, it almost sounds like a little bit of piston slap.

Anyone have any suggestions on where to start looking?

Yea, it kinda sounds like the starter pinion gear slightly rattling against the drive face.
Did you shim out the kicker cover?
If you do in fact have a pinion gear installed, you could just remove it and see if the noise goes away or not. What crankshaft are you running? Did you use the polini corsa base gasket/head gasket?

ministroke? if so check the clearance on the fins of the piston and head, piston rattle can also occur from rings not setting properly or worn rings :2thumbs:

hey guys, she has a oem crank, and I do not run the electric start so the pinion gear is out already. Im using the kit supplied gaskets, do have a extra set. I never spaced the kick cover, didnt believe I had to on a oem crank. I feel as if its rings but wont know until new ones arrive. What causes the kick cover to need to be spaced away from the case? Now will the piston should show some scoring if its been rattling around? I will disassemble her later this evening hopefully get some photos

well gents, I took the cylinder off and yep, seems the rings are worn pretty heavily. The top ring seems to have worn out first. I see a lot of carbon on the bottom ring, and my cylinder has a nice black line telling me there is some blow by. Well graphite do you sell replacement rings and a gasket kit? I may ask my friend whos got a kit or two sitting in his garage. Bummer on the weak rings

Which ring did you use on top? It goes shiny on top dull on bottom.

Had the same problem and melted the rings right into the piston. I'm sure it was the cheap v8 pipe. I had a huge exhaust leak. No more cheap parts for this guy.

I had the same noise on my Taiwan 50mm kit. It was the piston and the rings. Switch it out for the corsa and it went away.
