Sym accelerating problems?

Post by solid808 »

I have a SYM which I just bought from someone with a 72 polini crosa bore mini stroked crank 28mm oko carb and he said it has 6.8-1 gears, pg short. My problem is that from a stop light till about 20 mph it revs up but I'm crawling till I reach about 20 mph and it runs awesome. A lot of throttle response and everything. I asked someone what I should do? He said I should try to change the clutch springs first to make it engage sooner or replace my gears to 7.4 - 1. But the clutch springs is cheaper and easier to do on my own... What should I do?

Greetings:

6.8:1 and even 7.4s would be awful tall for the high-revving Corsa; it's no surprise that 0-20 sucks, and the engine won't have enough power to exploit those gears fully. I believe your Corsa would be a lot happier with 8.44s or maybe 8:1. Also, make sure your variator roller rolls aren't shifting the pulleys before the clutch is engaged. Depending on the center spring, something like 32 grams - Total load - works best.

I called a moped shop today and told them my problem and they told me its the gears also. He recommended putting in 7.9-1 for my set up... But I rode my friends bike with 7.4 and pick up was awesome and thats what I wanted.... High end 60 mph is good enough for me and he said I should top it off about that. Is that true?

I put 7.4 with 1500 contra and 3000 clutch and bottom end just takes off now.. now I think I got to play with weights to speed up top end accel but still debating.. My next step I think is to get rid of my exhaust I just dont like it.. It makes my bike quick but pg short is super loud.. looking for a quieter pipe that has the same performance any ideas?
