fuel. spark. compression. nothing but an occasional fart

Post by DirtyE »

Well, like the title says. I have a wet plug, no compression tester but I have very solid suck and blow action, and the plug sparks on the frame, as well as the case.

I flooded the * out of it, but im pretty sure I got all the fuel out of the cases. I pulled the pipe and dumped it in the grass. Maybe because all 3 of my plugs got wet theyre bad.

The plug isn't bad. Spray it off with carb cleaner. Sounds like you're too rich on pilot.

Is it possible that the polini 26mm carb came with too rich of a pilot? If I adjust my a/f screw I could compensate a little for the rich pilot condition for testing or not?

yeah just spray the plugs and the carb cleaner should evaporate pretty quick. I just blow with blow gun from the compressor and when in doubt heat the electrode with the torch as its always ready to go with trigger start. You very well could have a huge pilot jet in that carb, its a pretty large carb to begin with. You can back the screw out more to lean out the pilot with more air but if there is that much fuel that is making plugs wet then have a look at the pilot sooner rather than later. maybe the pilot jet is loose. double check that there are no obstructions in the exhaust as well. If for some reason the pipe got clogged you could have the very issue you are having. When you try to start it after you check everything over try cranking with the throttle wide open until it starts, that kind of leans it out when you crank it over so if its flooded that can help it out. if it still has the issue compression testing would be a great idea anyway.

Well I pulled the intake apart including carb and cleaned/rtv'd and retightened everything. I let it sit without a plug in over night, although im pretty sure its not flooded any longer. I flooded it around 10-11 yesterday morning and worked on it til about 8.
It was pretty nice outside yesterday, about 25 and sunny.

My stator and flywheel is very rusty. I pulled the flywheel this morning will clean it all up today. I have spark though, so not sure if itll do anything. I got an aftermarket spark plug boot swapped that in and it didnr do anything. Tightened and sealed up the intake. Checked the reeds.
Whitey is back from new Orleans today, I can probably get a leakdown tester from him.

EDIT: should I see the headlight and dash lights flickering when I kick it over? Im thinking because they are a.c. off the motor running I should see them attempting to come on even when I kick.
Dc brakes and blinkers are fine. Spark seems a little weak.

because your running premix and have flooded it there a lot of oil in the jug and will foul the plug fast ... you can pull the top end off and wipe off most of the oil so the plug dont foul as fast... or spray some no no juce on the air flter ...i set my gap at 23 ...

That's the second malossi wood ruff key I've seen break. Where did you purchase your crank through?
Glad you found it!

G9. I dont like the crank a whole lot. On the other side, the fixed pulley is a little loose on the splines as well. The nut that secures it is the only thing saving the splines. My legs are sore and the bottom of my feet feel bruised from kicking yesterday. All that kicking is reassuring to me that the fixed pulley is secure enough. Not so lucky with the key. But, I need to find a d*** key. I want this thing running TODAY!
