What Honda Motor is Most Comparable to Spree's Shape-wise?

I've seen how many people have put in engines in their Sprees from Aeros, Elites, even a GY6. I understand that putting in a different motor requires at least a little bit of fabrication. Also, for it to be worth the trouble, you would want it to have a bit more power, say 75+cc? What of those motors have a good balance of little fabrication to little bit more power?

Even for the aero 50 complete motor do you still have to weld with the motor mount or does it just fit rite on?

You never have to weld anything when doing the swap.

But, I wouldn't pay more than $200 for a complete aero motor. If you do you'll regret not going dio. The dio spree, in stock form with just a variatior will make it a quick little bike.
Which Aero motor should I use? I'm not looking to go 60  .Also does there shape vary much throughout the versions?

The shapes are the same, maybe slightly bigger but an af05 fits under spree panels just like stock. And 86-87 aero motor is your best bet, mostly unrestricted and still has upgrade potential for later on down the road.

Would an Aero 80 or 125 fit just as well? I'd like to be able to definitely go 40 for my city's streets.

You can make anything "fit". A Nicely tuned aero motor will do an easy 40mph. Or you can go for an af16 and do 40 slightly easier.

go af16 and the possibilities will be much more. leave the af05 alone.

What model and year scooter would the AF-16 engine be found in ? How do you find and buy them ?
Is the AF-16 called the DIO engine ?
What year DIO engine is best to use ?

Af16e is NOT called a dio. Dio is af18e. It's like calling all chevy 5.7 liters corvette engines. There are minor differences. I have an af16,18, and sc10as all sitting here and all 3 are different in little ways.
It seems to be common nomenclature only on this site for the af16e to be called dios just so they are not confused with their earlier sibling elite engine in the US, the af05e.
True Af16 came in US model honda elites from the year of 94 through a 2001 when they ended the series of 50cc honda elites.

So the AF16E came in 94-01 Elites and was sold in USA, that info really helps a lot. ( probably everyone else already knows that )
Was the desirable DIO engine scooter sold in USA ? And what years were they sold ? Is there a better year DIO to use ?

Of those engines, the AF16 AF18 AF28, which is the preferred one to use ? Which one has the most performance parts available ?
Sorry about all the questions, but local scooter guys don't seem to know much about the DIO or they are just keeping the info to their self. ( sneaky bastards and they have fast scooters )

They are basically the same other then minor differences. Most of the parts are interchangeable. You should be looking for an af16.

Af16 is the way to go I think. The af18 is better if you're leaving it stock.

One more question and I will stop.
If I were to compare a 94-01 Elite with a AF16 engine to a Spree with a AF16 engine which one is a better ride ?
By better I mean smooth ride, good handling, better brakes, faster.
If anyone has driven both, please share the info.
