1983 Honda Mascot 80 questions
Hello i just bought a 1983 honda mascot 80cc scooter with 1400 miles. So that being said iam very familiar with the Honda spree. Now i have this scooter with the manual.
What should i do first to make this thing road worthy? It just needs a little TLC. Thanks everyone for your input.
Also when i turn the handlebars all the way to the left the idle goes up. Indicating that the throttle is jammed up against something..
How do i take all plastics off to take a look at the inside?
Thanks
Jakub G

I'm sorry Mr.jakubman1,...what you ask is would be quite a stupendous feat.
Apply yourself and at least give us some idea of what a Mascot 80 is...

Re: 1983 Honda Mascot 80 questions
Its an areo 80. Canada version. It tops out at 45mph . I read somewhere i could make this thing a little quicker with a bigger jet in the carb?
This thing is wayyy faster than my honda spree. Which is sadly now for sale
. The spree has 2400 miles. Looks like new
Whats the largest size tires i can put on my areo 80? Maybe taller ones for top speed. Does it have a fuel strainer in the petcock like my spree? The guy was using walmart oil
So im fixing to start cleaning the fluids like : oil,gas tank, soaking and cleaning carberator ,spark plug, air filter, and final reduction oil. Now how do i go about all this without messing up and forgetting to remove all the O rings and gaskets in the carb? Since my spree was much easier to do all this. This areo 80 has much more stuff in it.
Thanks for the replies!

Re: 1983 Honda Mascot 80 questions
Greetings:
Factory jetting may have been a bit too lean for EPA compliance. If so a size up may improve performance a bit. Sadly there are few aftermarket performance upgrades for the Mascot/Aero. MotorMike and others have mounted an OKO intake pipe which allows a variety of aftermarket carb options, but the carb isn't a huge limiting factor. The engine is a friendly, easy-going lump, evidently. Porting and a homebuilt pipe will produce greater gains.

I was just looking at that on Craigslist or EBay I forget where I saw it. How much are you looking to get for the Spree and what year is it?

Above is a LINK to Aero / Mascot 80 review.
You should be able to find the fasteners retaining the plastics. I don't have an Aero 80.
The only one I've owned did not stay with me very long.
The "choke" system on them is vacuum operated, and other owners have bypassed that system due to it's
complex nature. When it fails, components are NLA from Honda.
One member here MAY have some advice for you...kevin710
USE the SEARCH feature on this board to find threads that discuss the AERO 80.
Best of luck...

Re: 1983 Honda Mascot 80 questions
Ok so today i took off the side covers for a good look. Seems someone plugged the vacuum on the intake pipe closest to carb. The air screw adjustment has been screwed with. The idle adjustment screw has been turned in all the way.
Most wires arent even put back in the built in clamps. I took some pics.
is the double tube thing in the right place?
What can i clean everything up with and stop the rust?
Is there a certain hose kit i can purchase for the old gas lines ect?
In the manual it says that i need to get pliers to break off a cap to one of the adjustment screws on the carb where is it at? Is it the air/gas adjustment screw? Thanks Jakub

HERE's that LINK belowjakubman1 wrote:Ok so today i took off the side covers for a good look.
Seems someone plugged the vacuum on the intake pipe closest to carb....I see that hose leads to the choke valve.
The air screw adjustment has been screwed with. ...this screw should be 2 turns out from stop to start tuning.
The idle adjustment screw has been turned in all the way....this is usually what you find when someone is trying to compensate for poor idling due to the system being out of tune and/or dirty.
( Most wires arent even put back in the built in clamps. I took some pics.
is the double tube thing in the right place? ...not sure...I will find a thread and LINK it for some assistance with tube routing, etc.
What can i clean everything up with and stop the rust? ...boy, good question, tough area to work in without dropping the engine.
Is there a certain hose kit i can purchase for the old gas lines ect? No, you're on your own...![]()

Is it the air/gas adjustment screw? ...back that air screw out two turns...![]()

Re: 1983 Honda Mascot 80 questions
Can i just buy a whole new carb? Im reading that Taz sells them? Honda doesnt carry the Main #90 jet.
Re: 1983 Honda Mascot 80 questions
Well you could rebuild that carb and it would run or you can get a manifold and carb kit and get a minor difference in performance.
