Well compression testing these bikes is always off, there is a certain head you ned for the tool to get a good reading. But if your seals poped out you would still get somewhat good compession a good way to test it is to put the spark plug in and put your hand over the carb face and if it has a suck and a blow your seals are fine and it is worn rings. You may have gotten too hot and cracked a ring. Ive done this in a car before, had no signs of anything wrong with it until I copression tested it and 1 of my cylinders was at 12psi, cracked it open and sure enough, no ring in sight.

Greetings;

The rings ensure seal around the piston to the cylinder, but won't prevent air escaping through a cracked piston or a hole therein. MotorMike cooked a 125 (I think) that way in an endurance race. Vacuum test the rest if your piston is sound. There are lots of potential leak places.

So I got my hands on a 1984 Honda Aero 80 that was missing all the plastics and had been sitting for about 5 years. Got it home and removed the carb off my orange 85, put it on and it started right up. I went for a drive and everything felt great! I only went around the block but as I was about to come up to my driveway it started to cut out like my last one did before it back fired and wouldnt restart so I shut the key off and killed the motor. Walked it home and tryed to start it and it started right up. Is there maybe a way that its a problem with the carb? Lean maybe? Just would hate to put this motor in my orange on and burn it up as well.

Well if your getting similar symptoms then I'd say yes it could be the carb.

Im afraid to run it. I just find it odd that after 2 years of running great the motor would just give up. I have yet to take the motor apart that will not start to see whats wrong with it and that scooter is tucked way back in storage anyways so it will have to wait till next year anyways. I have this one in my garage and would like to make sure to have the motor ready for when I can get the Orange one out. I have decided that im going to weld pipe onto the frame and turn it into a stunt scooter and practice wheelies with it as me and my brothers have always wanted to try but didnt want to beat up our good ones. I suppose if the motor holds up to that then its good to go in the Orange. Just wanted to see if you guys ever herd of a carb taking out a motor before. I have to say there is a bit of blue smoke coming out of this thing when its running and none of my other ones do that so im guessing its getting plenty of oil.
