86 Spree Carb has holes drilled in it???
I have an 86 Spree that I am trying to get running. I am getting ready to clean the carb and when I disconnected the air hose from it I noticed that the previous owner drilled three holes in the intake. The holes were covered with electrical tape and a zip tie. Does anyone know what purpose these holes would serve? Am I good to just cover these holes or do I have a serious problem here

Whatever the reason for drilling holes was,
just put the air filter plenum back on...it's fine.
Make sure the holes are covered and not sucking air when running.

Ha! now I just need to find out what kind of hose I should by to hook up the fuel reservoir to the pump. is that something special or can I buy a standard size hose?
Re: 86 Spree Carb has holes drilled in it???
By "pump" Im assuming you mean carburetor since the Spree doesn't have a fuel pump. There isn't really a "standard" fuel line size since theres so many sizes out there. You can use any fuel line available from your local auto parts store. They have bulk rolls and will usually sell it per foot. If you don't have a fuel line to bring with you to use as a gauge, bring the carburetor with you to the store. Get one that snugly fits onto the input tube.
Ive replaced my lines and this is the route I go. Their tubing is clear opposed to factory braided but work/last just fine. It fits snug enough you don't need hose clamps and only costs a buck or two. Just be sure when cutting the length to fit there isnt excess slack in the line. Fuel cant flow uphill.
Also, the fuel and vacuum lines are different sizes in case you plan to replace both.

I need to find some new haters...the ones I have are starting to like me.

My apologies. I meant to say OIL reservoir, not fuel.

I'd replace the electrical tape, just to seal it up.
Re: 86 Spree Carb has holes drilled in it???
That's a new one. You could probably fill the holes with epoxy putty (JB Weld) and sand flat, but if covered with air nozzle, will be fine.

Let's join the 21st century folks. Hasn't anybody ever heard of "Duct Tape"?
Seriously though, hardware and auto part stores sell epoxy and other fillers that are not affected by petroleum as suggested by noiseguy. Don't go crazy with the stuff either. Just make sure you have totally cleaned and degreased prior to using, and cover the holes totally.
Back to the duct tape though. If it were me, I'd wrap a piece around the filled holes (360 degrees if possible) just as insurance. Duct tape seems to stick to itself better than to most other things. Red Green would be proud of you too....
