The orifice size is important to the bystarter system. Drilling will likely cause the engine to be way too rich during warm-up.

The passage is about 0.013"/0.33mm. I have used 0.010 music wire (convenient when the local hobby shop stocked it) to clear the obstruction then spray with carb cleaner.

I like to soak with carb cleaner 24 hours, then poke the hole. In this case you could just put some carb cleaner in the bowl in both the main bowl reservoir and the bystarter reservoir.

I'd dissuade simply on the basis it is a *non-reversable* modification....likely unnecessary as well.

Though as motormike, mousewheel and hailwood have suggested...clean it open to spec.

You can actually buy carb cleaner buy the jug. Eclark has mentioned using a Crock-Pot and cooking the entire stripped carb in carb cleaner overnight.

Reading about messin' with dangerous chemicals (carcinogenic or even flammable?).... I became inquisitive about "cooking" using carb cleaner.

I found further eclark more reasonable advise...note the starred text.
"Soak the carb over-night in this solution with the crock pot ***set on low***."

Thus clearing the "accident waiting to happen" vision I had of actual boiling.

Inevitably...as this is the interwebs...there will be those thinking "more is better"...i'll turn up the heat!
I'm cognizant we know better but any kitchen type suggestion should be accompanied by both safety warnings and submitting other options. Low heat greatly differs from "boiling" or "cooking".... an open pot of boiling carb cleaner on your kitchen range is ill advised...and should be specifically warned against. You just know someone somewhere without a crock pot will use an open pot on their kitchen range. Spills or fumes blatantly dangerous.

Alternative, safe standard methods do exist. Dipping overnight in a commercially available cold solution (Berryman Chem-dip or even Pine-sol) or (better yet) heated ultrasonic if available.
