I think I put the wrong oil in, will this hurt?

Post by mc1984 »

I bought a quart of citgo air cooled 2-stroke oil and added it to my spree. After I had dumped it in I realized that it might not be for oil injected motors. My question is, is it alright if I run this oil in my spree or should I drain it out?
I have no problem draining it out except that I dont want to have to bleed the pump. If I should drain it what is the best way?

Thanks in advance for your time, I appreciate it!!!

i dont think it will make a difference as long as its 2 stroke and not marine oil.

If it's not injector oil, dump it and clean out the system (including lines.) The premix stuff makes a mess of the Spree engine in a hurry.

Various brands of 2-stroke oil seem to have different viscocities (Thicknesses). And while they all blend with gas and do their job once they are mixed with gas and delivered to the motor internally, I wonder if the thicker oils will be pumped and pulled into the gas as readily as the injector specified products. The injector oil does seem a little thinner than my Husky chain saw oil. Just food for thought. I'm pretty much a tight wad, but I don't think I would take a chance on this.

I ran a non-injector oil for 10 miles and pulled the head. Huge gloppy mess inside what (was) a clean mill. I had to clean it all up and flush out the premix oil, and am now running injector oil only.

CITGO 2T ENGINE OIL IS A NMNA MARINE TC-W3 2-CYCLE ENGINE OIL, WHETHER THE LABEL SAYS SO OR NOT. THE OIL IS AN EXCELLENT PRODUCT AND IS PERFECT FOR USE IN OIL INJECTOR SYSTEMS. IT IS ACTUALLY THE PREFERRED PRODUCT FOR THESE BIKES - BURNS CLEANLY, GOOD BEARING PROTECTION, PUMPS READILY, MIXES READILY, ETC.

Dude, enough with the all-caps.

I don't know anything about the oil you're talking about. Marine oil I typically find is meant for premix, and shouldn't be used. If you've found a marine injector oil that works, great. I haven't been able to find it at the places I typically look.
