Hey newbie here from NC. Bought a red 87 spree that needs some love. PO started to put a new throttle cable in. Quick question - does the barrel of the throttle sit down in the carb? There’s a tab in there and the barrel has a slot that’s about half way up and the other side is full length. Which side goes into the tab of the carb body? I have the needle going into the hole. I’ve searched with no luck. Sorry if this is common. I’ve also looked for inside the carb pictures with no luck. Thank I hope to be a long time member and help others. Once I get this sorted I’ll post picks to help the next person.

The ramped slot (goes part way up) aligns with the idle adjustment screw. Therefore, as the adjustment screw is turned in/out, the barrel adjusts up/down for proper idle.

The slot on the barrel that runs the entire length aligns with the peg inside the carb.

Play with it a bit, dont force it down, spin and wiggle gently....once you find the sweet spot, she slides in like butter.
