Spree leaking gas!

Hi!

I just recently bought an 86 Honda spree. Cleaned rust out of tank, got new vacuum petcock, cleaned the carb, went to start it and gas leaked out. It’s not coming from the tank, and everything was hooked up properly... not sure why it’s not starting now!

Did you put the float/needle valve back in right? Maybe it fell apart during assembly inside the bowl. Also make sure some dirt didn't somehow get back in the jet/needle valve causing it to stay open.

Before this we got it started with ether and it wasn’t an issue!
Thank you! We’ll try that.

Float needle not shutting fuel off...flooded cylinder...probably still debris getting into bowl...did you install fuel filter?...won't start when flooded.

So we figured out where the gas was draining from, cleaned out the carb again, got new fuel lines and clamps. We have been trying with starting fluid and it’s still not fully turning over.

It doesn’t seem like there is any debris or anything that’s getting into the carb. Replaced the old oil. Any thoughts?!

You didn't say where it's draining from exactly. the carb overflow hose?

Yes I believe it’s coming from the overflow hose. I looked at a diagram for the carb and we thought we might’ve had the fuel lines switched. We checked the spark. Also used my friends scooter battery in place of mine to see if that was the issue as well.

It's something in the carb that isn't right then

Yes maybe the adjustments are off? We figured out why the fuel was draining, but it’s still not fully turning over still, even with starting fluid.

Before we replaced any parts or cleaned out the carb we originally got it started with fluid and then it shut off quickly.

Nope, it has to be the float/needle valve. That is what cuts off the fuel from the fuel tank to the carb. If that's not working, fuel will continue to flow.

Take out the float and shake it. If you hear gas sloshing in it, it's bad. Replace it. It'ls sinking and opening the needle valve.
