Removing a Stator?

Hi, I have an 82 Express SR and I am trying to remove the stator. IS it pressed on some splines? Do I need a puller to remove or just a light tap with a hammer? I already removed the nut in the middle but it doesn't seem to budge.

Manual is posted online here in tech docs. I believe you'll need a puller.
