still cuts/bogs out

Post by snikro »

Well I bought an actual air filter, installed it, and the throttle still cuts out when I ride it and try to give it a good amount. The problem is better since I used the real filter instead of the one I made out of a sponge (see other thread), but just a little. I got it to go real fast with full throttle ONCE with the new filter, but only for a second and then it started cutting out. Also, I'm getting a lot of white smoke out of the exhaust. The problem seems to get worse as the engine gets hotter - if it starts getting really bad and bogging out on just a little throttle, if you let it sit and idle for a minute it's better when you start off again, but quickly gets worse. Ideas?

do a plug chop
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

Yes but there is so much you can tell about a 2 stroke engine just by looking at the plug.

Ok well as I think I said before I can't possibly do a plug chop because if I hold it at full throttle it will start to bog within seconds, and if you keep holding it there the engine dies.

Any more ideas? I am thinking its an air issue, because the new factory air filter (probably more breathable than the homemade one) seemed to help the problem a bit. Also, exactly where are those notches to make it run more rich/lean?

I tried riding it with the air filter cover off (filter still on), and the problem was a little bit worse. I put it back on and then adjusted the air screw to the right amount of turns in case it was off, and that didn't really hurt it but didn't seem to help either.

Also a thing to note, when you're giving it a lot of throttle and its bogging out, sometimes there will be a couple of very small what sound like backfires, and more white smoke comes out. If you let it sit and idle for a minute the smoke pretty much goes away, but when you start out riding it again after a minute there is a good amount of white smoke.

Restricted exhaust maybe? I have no idea :x

Something I forgot to mention - when the bike is running and you put your hand over where the spark plug is coming out, you can feel little puffs of air with every revolution, coming out probably where the spark plug hole is, and they increase as you throttle up. It wasnt much so I always thought it was nothing, but is this something to worry about?

any chance you are just felling your cooling system?
you moped is air cooled. therefor has a cooling fan . it forces air up around your cylinder. so you might be able to fell it there. just an idea
