No head gasket & it runs

Well, I found my spark problem and solved carb issues. The Spree runs pretty well 0-20 mph where it stops running well. Compression was high so I removed the head for carbon inspection after which I went to retrieve and inspect the head gasket. There was none! I will order one tomorrow. Anybody ever run a Spree without a head gasket? What symptoms might your expect?

Well, there's your "high compression" problem. The head gasket is .020" tall (by memory.) Removing it increases compression by about 10-15 PSI. You can deck the same amount of material off the head to get the compression increase, which is what I did to mine.

The head will probably leak some with no head gasket, although it sounds like yours had good compression cold.
