it will effect the electric start, just don't mess with it to be safe.

that is why the brake needs to be engaged to start it. my starter relay died so i bypassed it to a boat ignition, so all i do is turn the key to start it now.(like a car)

THE STARTER RELAY KEEPS THE FULL POWER OF THE BATTERY FROM FLOWING THROUGH THE WHOLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND DIRECTS IT STRAIGHT TO THE STARTER WHEN THE STARTING SYSTEM IS ENGAGED.

it can be bypassed if needed. this is really just the safety so the brake has to be engaged.

The starter relay is just that, a relay. It's kind of hard to explain how it works but in a nut shell: your starter button on your handlebars and the wireing to it is not capable of handling the amps that the starter draws from the battery. The relay has 4 prongs on it. When you push your starter button it connects two of those prongs together and sends power to a coil inside the relay. The coil creates a magnetic field which closes a switch inside the relay (thats why it "clicks". That switch is capeable of handling the amps it takes to turn the starter.

The Spree starter is relatively low amps so it would not be hard to find a switch that can handle the amp's and just bypass the relay.
Comeing soon: Possibly the fastest Spree in the world...
