Petcock cover falling off? Here's the fix!
This may be old news to some but it wasn't for me.
After spending months on various scooter forums and lamenting the fact that the petcock cover for the Sprees sucks because-
1. They fall off all the time
2. They are not made any more and as a result are rare and expensive.
To me it looked like the cover just sorta "sat" in the hole and would fall off when just starting the scooter. Which is what everyone else told me.
Well, while looking for a belt online and I stumbled across this-
Yeah, there is a little clip to hold on the cover?!?!?!? Why had no one mentioned this to me?!?!??!!
Irritating.
Of course, the piece is no longer available but I thought I could fabricate something close.
I ended up using a surplus bolt on tie wrap. I just clipped off the wraps and this is what I came up with-
The little loop puts some tension on the cover and snugs it up tight. The lock washer holds the whole thing on. It's not falling off anytime soon.

Absolutely. If this was 1983 and he was working for Honda. his design would have won and there would be a petcock cover on every Spree still.Dac wrote:do you think his way is better then the slandered clip?CharlotteSpreeRider wrote:Dude, the clip IS attainable...I know this for a fact as I bought one from Honda 2 months ago.

Good idea, the stock one is * and only clips about half of the tab(although this might have something to do with most of my plastics being mounted to put it simply, creatively).
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.
If you want to do that then let me polish it up first.Dac wrote:you think i should post this in the Advance tech documents part of this site?
