Carb. Question

Post by moose »

When putting the bolts into the carb I had put the long bolt into the short hole and punched a hole into where the autobystarter is located, I epoxyed the hole and it seems to be fine (I didnt hit the brass fitting inside the hole so it should seat properly) but i cant get it to idle. How important is this auto bystarter, WHat can I do?

If someone could help that would great, Thanks.

You have to make sure the autobystarter can seat to close off the enriching circuit and that it is far enough in to let the bystarter shut off the fuel.

To answer your question, from a cold start you need it. It allows extra fuel into the intake to get the cold engine warmed up. I have circumvented it by pluging the gas and air from getting into the intake and soaking the intake with starter fluid. This works for me now since I am just putting it together, but it will be fixed prior to it being put into service. It would not work day to day without it. You are stuck buying a new carb if you cannot get it to seal.

I wonder if anyone knows a way to put a bulb/manual choke on it.

Warning to others watch and label the disassembly to make the assembly easier.

Hope you get it running.

Yes, but would it bolt up without modification?

depends on your luck. sometimes the flange is similar enough to fit. there are a lot of different styles.

If the epoxy repair does not work contact Mr.Richardson for a carb or just a carb body. He has various price ranges depending upon what you are looking for. I bought a carb body with damaged mounting threads (cheapest option) from him and just swapped out all components. It worked fine and Richardson will be honest with you and do what he promises.

I'm sure we'll be hearing from the new owner after the sale, but there will be a lag while he gets set up. And he may not be as good at supporting the sale as Don.
