"Cleanliness is next to running-ness." I'll have to remember that.

How's your tank? Rusty? Are you running an inline filter?

These carbs are nearly identical to Spree carbs. You likely have a plugged idle circuit. Install a fuel filter and reclean your carb.

yay, it was the bystarter....

o ring.

i swapped it out with a new one, and got a fuel filter for it, now it runs pretty well. no bogs like before. but i gotta take it out and test it again, it does smoke a little now though, white smoke. how do i correct that? does that mean it's too lean or too rich and which way do i turn the air screw? oh yeah, the lid and filter were on when it smoked.

fuel filter - check
recleaned carb - check

it runs great now.

however it did the same thing as it did before. i'd ride it topped out at about 35-40, then come to a light and it died.

so i pulled it up onto the sidewalk and looked at the fuel filter, didn't look like fuel was flowing, and cranked it a few times. then i waited about a minute and it started up fine and i rode it home..

while on a side street, it sputtered once or twice again, then it went away.

also, the powerband seems to hit around 20 mph, is it the same on your sprees? i think the engine is identical since the carbs are so identical.

any thoughts on these guys? mainly the one about it dying when coming to the light then starting up a few minutes later like nothing happened.

thanks for all the help guys :D

new problem, after a long hard run, speed limit(35mph) lol, it will bog out when u give it gas, say i'm going 30 mph, giving it gas, it will bog then as it dies out and i come to a stop it'll be dead. this has happened more than a few times and is probably the same reason why it died in the first place.

i will then try to start it back up, when it doesn't start up, i wait. then after i've tried to start it for about two minutes and almost give up, it'll start again.

sounds like a fuel issue to me though, what do you guys think? could the fuel valve be bad? or the floats? u guys know alot more about this than i do. i'd like for the bike to be reliable so i'm not stuck somewhere. lol. any thoughts? when it died the last time, i looked at the fuel filter and it looked dry. now i didn't look at it very closely but i cranked it and fuel started dripping back into the fuel filter from the vacuum coming from the carb. i dunno...

i just thought of something. this sounds very similar to the time i needed a new top end rebuild. check compression.

It's either getting hot and losing compression or your running the bowl out of gas over and over. Check compression with the engine warm and report back. Go to the auto parts store and do a free "rent a tool" if you don't own one.

problem has been solved, like i said in my other post, was just the wrong angling of the fuel line, or the fuel filter restricting the flow of fuel to the carb.

maybe the new fuel filter is too restrictive for this little bike, it's the smallest they had at schucks, but it's still kinda big. with clear tubing and the fuel filter, fuel doesn't flow to the carb

but with just a clear fuel line running in a spiral or straight to the carb with no kinks, it flows perfect.

Oh, you bought an automotive style filter. Those are meant to have 5 PSI or so through them, and you're not going to get that with the Spree. Go to a bike shop or lawn/garden center and get one that will work with gravity feed systems.

You posted that you bought it at Shucks. A lawn/garden filter is fine; either way sounds like the problem is fixed.

You might drag the scoot to a MC shop to let them listen to it and tell you if they think it sounds "normal." Or try to hook up with a local Spree-er that can give it a listen.
