Oil light

Got a spree a couple weeks back for $500. I love the thing. Loved it to be more specific. Two days after I got it the oil light went on and it just shut off at a stop light. Checked the oil res and it is full. Could the oil pump be broken? Could there be a clog? This thing obviously hasnt been run on a regular basis for a while.

I took it to a place that specializes in honda mopeds and the technician told me it wasnt worth fixing, which is obvioulsy code for "buy a $2,300 metropolitan from me."

Any help or ideas would be great. Thanks!

I would change the oil to Honda GN2 and clean your oil filter and blow the lines.
Test your oil pump by making sure you're getting a drip every 8-10 seconds. You don't want to run your scooter long without the oil pump hooked up though. Some people make a mixture of premix and run it that way for awhile and then change it out.

Good Luck!

The light is turned on by the level switch in the tank. Not sure how it could come on with the tank full unless the switch broke. The most likely damage to the engine is a siezed piston. It's isn't that big of a deal to fix unless you're paying the Honda dealer to do it. A good used piston and cylinder if you're going cheap and you should be good to go.

Does it turn over?

The ignition works. Its sounds like its going to crank up, but it just refuses. Should I try to pre-mix and experiment with that? And if it is a siezed piston, could I get it moving by pre-mixing?

I am sorry for my ignorance on the subject, I am 2 weeks into scooters. Thanks for all your help!

Do a compression test. It sounds like you melted the piston. The compression should be 114 psi minimum. That's with the throttle wide open and cranking the engine over at least 5 times. Should have a warm engine, but since yours won't run do it cold.

Mine sometimes comes after I hit a bunch of bumps or try to do wheelies.

Is this normal?

Yes it is normal. When mine gets low the light will come on in turns and over bumps.

The problem is that it does this when it's about 7/8ths full.

Probably a bad float.
