Kick start install question

Recently I tried to install a new half moon looking gear into the kick start of my honda spree. It seems as though I am missing a 3rd gear. I have the half mooned one on the plate in alignment and then the one bolted on the moped. Is there a 3rd gear that I am missing that I need in order for my kick start to work?

Well maybe you can help me understand how the gears interact with each other, because to me they make no sense at all. I don't understand how the half moon connects to the gear that turns the piston.

Greetings:

I will know more tonight. I'm about to swap the one-piece case cover/kicker on Flash for the nifty Dioid 2-piecer on the new Deej. Pre-reading the Service manual suggests there's a sort of cam washer with shaft splines that lives on top of the kicker, allowing it to engage in one direction but free to disengage if the engine kicks over. Sort of like a primitive Bendix. If that cam washer's missing it would explain why the gear won't spin the engine: It's freewheeling on the shaft instead.

Check the parts blowup for some idea how it all goes together. If this isn't your model (Please specify your model/year!), click the date on the Mr. Cycles page and find it.

Its a 1986 honda spree, and to me it seems that the half moon gear should be touching another gear to get the piston gear to move but i cant seem to remember taking one out or every having one. There is another gear close to the gear that moves the piston but when you put the plate on the half moon one is no where near it.

Post Edited.

you are right there is a total of three gears to make this work #1 the flywheel gear #2 the half moon gear and # three the gear that the half moon gear engages to move the flywheel gear
