Newbie! : Help with Oil in Honda Spree

Post by leech »

Hello there~

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide :>

Okay, just a brief introduction : I'm a 20-year-old carefree/clueless girl when it comes to..just about anything. However I'm better with engines/engineering because I'm fast at picking up things and isolating problems -- so I was hoping I could fix this myself. Anyways, I don't have much experience at all with anything besides cars..soo..at first I totally put gas in the oil container. (The oil cap is a different one, so I totally got it confused!!)

After finding out (the hard way) how to dissassemble, I drained all the oil and put more 2stroke oil in. Voila! The scooter ran again!

The oil light would come on, but (remember what I said about carefree?) I didn't really assume much, and then about a half away mile from home it broke.

So I drained the oil out again, and put some more, and now the oil light comes on when I try to start it, but doesn't start. The engine cranks (is that the right word for it) but wont start :/

Basically I have no clue what to do now, and also do not know how to put the strainer back in...

SO!

Basically!

Any help would be amazing. (After I started browsing, I got all excited for trying to mod a scooter and repainting it, etc)

Thanks again :D

What kind of oil were you using? Exact brand, etc off the label.

You may be lucky and it's just a fouled plug.

Next step is to check the compression. If it's still turning over, the compression's probably fine, but if it's not that would explain why it's not running. You can "rent" a compression meter from most car parts places. Get that with the new plug.

Next you're on and into the carb. Try the above stuff first.

First I would run a compression test. If you do not have one then maybe you can borrow one? You compression should be around 120 psi. If significantly lower than that you may have ruined your top end. Where are you located? Maybe a nearby member can help you out...

Oops Noisey beat me to it....

if your oil light is coming on, your oil tank is low. keep the oil tank full and the light should shut off. :D

Kay~ Sorry, I work/go to school so I only have time to work on this bad boy on the weekends >:.

I'm not sure on the first brand, but when I pick up the compression/test and plug I'll be able to tell you.

The second I used was Castor oil (2 stroke)

I have no clue how much oil to actually put in, I just eye-balled it the first time. (IM SO SORRY SCOOTER, I DIDN'T KNOW ALL THIS COULD KILL YOU!).

Uhm! I'll post the results of the test soon!

Fill it to the top and keep it full.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

Are you mixing the gas and oil by any chance?

Let's start with, what kind of scooter do you have? It sounds like a two stroke.

??? Did you put the oil in the gas, or in the oil tank? If it's in the oil tank, it doesn't matter how much you add. Is the oil tank empty now?

Yeah, sorry. I'm retarded. That's what I get for posting before I've had coffee.
