best engine swap for a spree
Please give me opinions on what is the best engine swap for a spree and why. I messed around with Puch's for years but I just picked up a 84,85 and 87 spree and I want to build one up with a transmission that has a variator. New to Honda's please help

I can say 90 mph but there's no way you'll go that fast...

Re: best engine swap for a spree
If you can find a good deal on a dio aka 94+ Elite engine, then go for that. Next best thing is an SA50 88-93 Elite, SE50 87 Elite, or NB50 86+Aero.
Re: best engine swap for a spree
Im in the process of finishing up swap onto the spree. Theres a recent post in the scooter builds section where i copied the engine mount (not the shock mount though). This swap was an 87 elite (se50) engine onto an 86 spree. It wasnt too tough. I have a bbk and variator on the way. The author of that post states it should put it to 40 mph. Lots cheaper than a dio.

Greetings:
Your '87 AF05 Elite engine should easily exceed 40, particularly with a big block. Just be careful about sustained WOT, because stock gearing may not be tall enough. If your particular engine has the elusive 10:1 gears and you can add a 3.50 or 90/90 tire, that may be enough. If not, exercise discretion (and install a Tach) on long downhills.

Re: best engine swap for a spree
Wheelamn, I am planning on running a small premix in addition to the oil pump and running a little rich to try to keep it together. I checked when I got the doner and my se50 has the 11 to 1 gears I would like to swap in taller gears like from a dio but can't find them. Any ideas?

Greetings:
Search for Malossi 67-6458 gears from an European parts store like 50cc.eu or Scooter-Center.com. They're getting rare even over there. The Aero/SE name in Europe for most parts is Honda Vision. A 3.50 tire and a mild bore kit might not exceed safe RPM threshold. Then again, it might...
