Wider wheels and tires on elite?

Re: Wider wheels and tires on elite?
I just got these wheels with a 2001 scooter i bought. I havent seen any with these rims but I really havent looked yet either. I am going to try and put 3.5x10 on both. Doesnt both me to have to dremel the case so it doesnt rub.
Does anyone know of a tire that has such a radius that minimal case needs to be shaved and the tire is still good.
I think I can live with the 3.5x10 tire but dont want to go smaller.

Re: Wider wheels and tires on elite?
the guy at a moped shop i went to the other day said 80/90 is just as wide as 90/90 but with a slightly smaller side wall.
Re: Wider wheels and tires on elite?
What are you putting that wheel on? It doesn't look like it has the same spindle attachment as an Elite.
Re: Wider wheels and tires on elite?
95 Elite SA50. It has one on the back already but my guess is the reason this wasn't put on is because it won't fit.

Not with out modding it. what is the mesurment of the inside of the drum brake on that thing?Snowman94 wrote:95 Elite SA50. It has one on the back already but my guess is the reason this wasn't put on is because it won't fit.
tire sizes go like this ....makadangdang wrote:the guy at a moped shop i went to the other day said 80/90 is just as wide as 90/90 but with a slightly smaller side wall.
on my car 195/50 15
The first number,195, means the width of my tire in mm is 195mm.
The next number, 50 , is a percentage of the side wall compared to the width. so 50% of 195mm or 97.5mm is the mesurment of the side wall
the last number ,15, is the number or inches of the rim size .........my car has 15" rims
The scooter tires are the same. so your moped shop is kinda incorrect.
An 90/90-10tire IS 10mm wider than a 80/90-10
However........ a scooter tire is so small and rounded, it is hard to clearly distinguish exactly where the side wall stops ,and the tire "bottom" begins.
new best 1/8th mile time 9.647 seconds @67.155 mph 310lbs total weight
Re: Wider wheels and tires on elite?
I have Pirelli SL26 90/90-10 tires on my front and rear stock S wheels and I love them. Handles great (drag center stand all the time) and they look sweet and fit perfect. No case cutting for me at all.

Re: Wider wheels and tires on elite?
Those look nice! is the 90/90 the widest to get or is the 3.50x10 bigger?
Here is the rim with the inner dimensions marked. The brake lining area is 4 1/4 inches, i need to find my caliper. The 4 9/16 is the ridge area.

Re: Wider wheels and tires on elite?
Greetings:
Nice looking rim, but for what brand/model of scooter is it intended?
Honda Aero used an 80mm brake hub, as did the early Elites.
After 2004, the front brake went to 95mm, just under 4 inches. The Metropolitan front rim fits the later Elites - Bolt-On - using the Elite brake panel. Your drum diameter @4.25" calculates to 107mm, so unless you have a different scooter brand, I'm not sure how it'll fit any Honda of this vintage.

Re: Wider wheels and tires on elite?
I think that is the reason it wasn't already on the scooter. Oh well, at least the rear one is on there but doesnt match... I think I got a bunch of JUNK!!! OHwell, at least it has an OKO carb and 2nd engine to play with.

What does "drag center stand all the time" mean? I'm thinking about getting new tires for my ride. Where did you pick these up at?wiguy05 wrote:I have Pirelli SL26 90/90-10 tires on my front and rear stock S wheels and I love them. Skins, Centerstands and Skidmarks
Greetings:
The biggest sure-fit size on an Aero or Elite is 90/90 x 10. Some 3.50s fit, some don't without mods. The 90/90s are actually a tiny bit wider (3.54") than the 3.50s, but considerably "shorter" and don't produce as much of an upgear. The sidewalls are considerably stiffer and the ride isn't quite as cushy, either.
Dragging the centerstand occurs when you bank hard into a corner, producing a Spectacular Shower O' Sparks, and sometimes skidmarks in one's Tighty-Whities. Trim that toe-tang to avoid costly Laundry bills.

Re: Wider wheels and tires on elite?
He must be laying that baby down low into the corners! I have dragged my Super9 before but I have only ridden my SR50 around the block one time.
Re: Wider wheels and tires on elite?
It is not that hard to catch the toe-tang on a nice lefty corner. All it takes is a modest lean or a little lean and a little bump. Let me tell you from my own past times doing so, laundry bills are the last thing going through your mind when it drags!
Re: Wider wheels and tires on elite?
As the others have pointed out its scraping while doing a hard left or right hand turn. The worst time it caught on water-shut-off cap and scared the living crap out of me!steffen707 wrote:What does "drag center stand all the time" mean? I'm thinking about getting new tires for my ride. I'd recommend the 90/90 tires as they are a sure-fit. I didn't want to chance them rubbing.
