Ok, my spree has a 63cc se 50 and vari from vt cycles. I replaced the factory belt with a shorter one a had on the shelf and saw great speed improvment. due to the range of the vari with everything relaxed at idle the overall ratio hadnt changed, but the shorter belt forced a higher ratio on the rear pulley at top speed. I still need to measure further because i feel this belt is slightly too short to macamize the high speed vari. Ive put close to 70 miles on this setup with no MAJOR problems and top speed is up to 40 mph.
Now the bad....... the belt that I used slips when decelerating and braking. Its the same width as the factory belt and the factory belt did the same thing. The factory belt is A width 1/2 inch and my next step will be a B width belt thats 5/8. Im sure that would be way too wide. Fully relaxed the vari dosent grab the drive belt at all at idle causing the slippage.
What now?

Lose that belt you should be able to get there with the mods you have without it.

duely noted. I figured I should achieve 40 without it too but to no avail. Problem is that the original belt did it too. Does this mean that the factory belt is wider than 1/2" and mine was just severly worn?

New belt is 15.5mm and needs replaced if under 14.5mm

Then I think youve hit my problem. Both my belts are 1/2". Which is 12.7 mm if i rember right. So I guess its off to Honda Monday morning to order the odd sized factory belt. My original must have been SEVERLY worn. This rises the question why im not over 40 mph with my setup? Id run 35 mph but didnt want to push it further for fears of overrev. Oh and it has a 2.75 tire and the unfortunate 11:1 gears.
