Throttle cable no longer auto closing

Post by PWDJDM »

So heres another snag in my build. I removed the oil pump, and plugged it with the aluminum plug from VT Cycles, but now I can't figure out why my throttle stays open after you twist the grip (grip doesn't recoil itself just stays where you twist to). I assume this is my bad because it worked fine before I tore the scoot down. Any ideas? I removed the oil pump, and the cable the operates it, maybe I screwed up somehow?

that happened to me, and it ended up being the throttle body on the handle bar was loose. tighten that bolt, or if you have a stock carb, make sure the long slot is facing away from the bike, and line it up with the adjustment screws

This sounds like the spring above the slide and the cap is missing on the carb.

I disassembled the cable where it splits from one to two for carb and oil pump, if i twist the grip you can see the rod moving back and forth. I don't totally understand how that operates the rest of the cable. Where is the spring bear? the only spring i see in the whole assembly is the one under the cap around the jet needle...thanks guys

also removed the cap and tried the valve both ways, same thing happens either way. you say the long groove should face away from the bike?

No, the long groove faces the motor. The short wide groove is fir the idle stop adjustment screw. The slide will only g drop all the way down if the long thin slot is aligned with the tab in the slide bore. If you sheared or damaged the tab you will have real problems, probably having to replace the carb body. The spring is on top of the slide and under the cap for the for the slide bore where the throttle cable enters.
