I started wondering what else could be holding it back. So, I bought a ruima Variator from Limp and a brand new belt from Honda..

I immediately went for a ride... Its windy today, so there was a nice tail wind.. Anyway, the difference was immediate! It pulled good all the way to 68.5 (GPS) MPH!!! :woot: I gained 12.5mph with just those changes...

I can't believe I have been wasting all this time on cylinders and pipes when it was the stock variator and belt all along.. :(

Now, I am wondering about 8.2 or 8.0 gears...

:surprise: Was you old belt just whooped or is the ruima variatior just the bees knees?

CAPT,

***Congrats, dude - that's some great news!***
I work at a scooter shop and do chinese gy6 repairs all day long, with the occasional Honda / Yamaha now and then, and the one thing that's cheaper quality than a chinese scooter, is a chinese belt. Its amazing the difference in speed by adding a new belt. -The chinese belt's price may be tempting, but believe me, they are junk.

Yep dude, it's always the last thing that you would think that can be the biggest factor.

Glad to hear you now can put the power to the ground-

No Man, you were'nt wasting your money in your cylinders, actually that's where you start first. Then you need to match your components like getting the right carb, the jettings, elevated ramp/plates & roller weights, clutch springs, pipe etc. It's all about playing and learning. As far as lowering your gears, you'll like it when you're cruising @ past 70 ... Ride Safe! :thumbwink:

You guys ever notice the difference in the quality of materials used in a ruima taiwan bore and a italian mallosi or polini? What about the difference in timing between the 72cc italians and the bigger displacement taiwan bores? I asked the owner of vt what his professional opinion was on the power differences between the italian bores and the taiwan bores and he said "even though the taiwan bores have more displacement and meat to port, they still put out less power than a malossi or polini". I think 70 mph is a realistic goal when your using a malossi or polini unported. I think weight has a lot to do with it as well. I hit 74 radar clocked with no problem, but I only weight 155. My bike didn't bang all the way up to 75 of course but it did 60 easy.
