You will not be able to get much speed without the airbox.nickisaninja wrote:I ordered an SE50 carb off ebay.
That should be here in a couple days! So! What do I do about filtering the air into the motor now? Should I trouble myself finding an se50 air box or should I throw on a universal air filter?
Would I have to change jets with a different filter?
Total 2cycle and carb newb here.

The spree air box might be too restrictive and causing a over rich condition.nickisaninja wrote:Running on the spree airbox right now

Have you changed the jets?
Are you premixing gas?
What type of oil are you using?

jets are factory, it smoked this hard with either both spree carb and se50 carb
no premix
valvoline 2 cycle, barely smoked anything out of the spree motor
smokes with or without intake box on

Could the oil pump be bad?

You guys are right, the variator gives a good oomph off the line and a lot more accel.
I think the check valve at the end of the oil pump may be gummed open and gravity feeding oil slowly =[!
I'll try and remove it or just clean it out with carb cleaner.

would that muff work to de-restrict me?

Greetings:
The stock-looking muffler definitely doesn't look much like an Aero or SE50 exhaust. See that constant-diameter header pipe leading to the muffler? The unrestricted scooters had at least a couple of diameter increases on the way to the can. There are probably better options out there ot de-restrict, if you're patient. Probably none cheaper, however. Perhaps as raw materials to cut-and-fab a chamber, this item's worth getting?

Gotcha. I might get it because the muffler from donor scoot had a battery leave itself all over and then sat for a while. It's in pretty bad shape and not worth repairing.
Are there any aftermarket options that will fit an se50 for under $100?

Here's where I mounted the shock. Right behind the voltage regulator! I don't listen very well. Anyway I felt the frame at this point was strong enough to sustain a big 'ol hole drilled in it. I think I used the motor mount bolt and nut from the se50 for the shock mounting. I didn't weld anything either and not going to. Welding isn't necessary and WHAMMY everything is made just that much easier for this swap. Just drill a hole! Who knew.

There's the sad looking motor mounted in. I can't wait to finish this so I can button her up and hide all the ugly!

Yes that is very possible.
Not the pump itself, but the rubber seals might be letting oil into the crank case.
Could explain all the smoke.

The elite was sitting for 10 years or more that would accumulate some oil in the case. I cleared it out and stopped smoking so much now it just has no power because of the lack of se50 airbox. Did you ship that box yet?
