Iowa spree
1984 Iowa spree.
Trying to get a little speed from it. Have a new air filter. Non-Iowa exhaust, installed the larger jet today #65 if I remember correctly. Had a #63 in it originally The bike actually ran a better top speed with the smaller jet in it and I'm a bit baffled. As it's set up right now, it is only running about 24 to 25mph and that's with the larger jet and Non-iowa exhaust. Have tried moving the jet needle to different locations and seems best at the very top spot. No air leaks, no fuel delivery problems or any others I can find. Any suggestions? I'm thinking of just running the smaller jet, seems better.

The Iowa jetting verses the non Iowa
Carb Jet
1984-87 Iowa: #65
1984-87 Non-Iowa: #68
If you don't have the 68 main jet you need to get one ASAP.

Re: Iowa spree
Another potential problem is that the Non Iowa exhaust you installed could be plugged up/dirty inside and needs to be cleaned. Several threads already here that outline different ways to clean it out. I prefer cooking on charcoal myself.

Ok, I made a mistake on the numbers for the jets. Has the #68 in it and #65 was stock. my bad.

Re: Iowa spree
Tried two exhausts, neither seems plugged. Same results with both. Both Non-Iowa.hammer wrote:Another potential problem is that the Non Iowa exhaust you installed could be plugged up/dirty inside and needs to be cleaned. Re: Iowa spree
Are you sure the exhausts are non-Iowa? look for the restriction washer in the mouth both the exhaust pipe.

Re: Iowa spree
I did not see any washer in either of them but will check again, and both have the bigger pipe where the muffler joins the header pipe. The Iowa exhaust has a smaller pipe in that location. Tomorrow I will try a get pictures to post so you can tell me if what I have is the Non-Iowa exhaust.

Re: Iowa spree
Do you have the stock spree intake and reeds?
Try some from an elite e. (sb50)
They flow better and may work better with the 68 jet.

Yeah, it's running the stock reeds and intake. Isn't the elite intake a Non-vacuum port intake? Meaning I'd have to drill a place for the vacuum line for the petcock, right?
