Iowa spree

Does your Spree/Elite already run great, and you're trying to make it quicker/faster? Need a monster motor swap? Discuss your ideas here.

Try some from an elite e. (sb50)
They flow better and may work better with the 68 jet.

Yeah, it's running the stock reeds and intake. Isn't the elite intake a Non-vacuum port intake? Meaning I'd have to drill a place for the vacuum line for the petcock, right?
I disagee with TJ on this. The stock carb and intake will work just fine.

Also the 68 jet is the same jet the non-Iowa Spree runs and should work just fine if everything else is as it should be.

Have you done a compression test? If the engines basic health is poor, nothing will make it better, except a rebuild.

No compression check done yet. With my experience with honda's It runs too good to have very low compression. Not saying that it's not 100%, just that it starts easy, runs good and seems to have very good performance. Besides the obvious issues now.
But yeah a check is in order to rule that out. What is a good reading on the 84 spree?

You would be wrong about compression. I have a 1983 Aero 80 that is suppose to have a minimum of 142 PSI. This engine has 90 PSI and starts and runs fine.

As I said, A compression check is in order. Thanks. And yes Honda's will run fine with low compression, scored rings and cylinder. Seen many like that. A testament to their quality.

The picture of the exhaust you posted is what I have seen on the 1984 Honda Spree's. Iowa or non-Iowa doesn't seem to matter. I have tried the 1984 exhaust on Spree projects I have done and I have always had better results with later model 1985 to 87 exhaust.

If you do go that route I would not install until I cooked it. No matter whether it is plugged up or not performance will be better when it is as clean as you can get it.

As far as better performance with the smaller jet. That very possible. 2 strokes make more power when they run lean. They just don't live very long when it set up too lean. They also loss power when they are too rich. You might go back to the original jet size and give it a try. I doubt that you really running much risk of seizing it up.

Not suggesting I know it all just some food for thought and wishing you the best of luck with your project.

Thanks Hammer.
You made some good points. I don't know what years the exhausts came from. Both are the same. One of them was on my 84 when I got it. Not saying it's original, just that it was on when I bought it. It does seem to me that is running rich with the larger jet but have not a chance to do any kind of plug chop or anything. Just been to busy with cars and the weather is cold again. Can't wait for the warm weather.
