what main jet are you using? have you tried heavier weights? and have you changed the clutch springs or are they still stock?

Greetings:

48 was too small. 58 sounds too big. Hmm, what to do...?
Variator rollers work against rear pulley spring. 6-gram rollers are pretty light unless you have a very weak spring, or an engine that revs very high. 9:1 gears work well with low-output motors, not so good with bigger bore kits. Which Tai 78?

why not try the stock clutch with stock weights till you get the carb tuned right then tune the trans? you have a lot of variables you have to work with. The variator should be tuned with certain weights to hold at the engines peak RPM.

how do u tune the trans, i think i jus need a smaller jet but its hard because i live on molokai an we dont have a moped shop that i jus can go to on the island, so my advantage is not dat good. i think a 52 should be good, correct me if im wrong, but do u think the bogging with the 48 was do to a stretch out belt.....

Greetings:

I think Baka-san and Mystic are saying that you're changing two things at once, and so it's hard to tell by the outcome if those changes are good or not. Sometimes one "cancels out" the other.

I suggest you set the tranny back to where it was when you liked it. Then tune the carb without changing up the tranny again until you're sure the jetting is correct. Maybe start with a 52 pilot, but what main are you fitting? They both matter, as does the needle clip position. That too is trial and error. Err on the side of "too rich".

Next the transmission is "tuned" by the spring choice, followed by trial-and-error until you get the roller setup that keeps the engine spinning in its sweet spot of RPM. 45 grams was too much for your spring? And 36 is too little? Once again, split the difference in small jumps of ~3 grams total until you like it.

The pilot adds its share through the different ranges but mostly controls idle to 1/8th and off throttle. It is possible your needle clip needs to be set differently as well. The main needle controls the midrange response and consequentlly where most people generally ride. With light weights its almost like you start in second gear and with the wrong clutch springs your variator shifts before the clutch even engages. It would be helpful if you had a CHT gauge and a tachometer so that you would know what the temps are at idle and what your rpms are when it bogs down. With the clutch half of the cover off and on the stand you can sorta see how and when the variator and clutch shift. With the lighter weights especially you will accelerate quickly to your bores peak RPM then the rest of the throttle will be on the down slope meaning you will lose power.

What size is the main jet????? If that main is to fat your gonna run like crap no matter what pilot you put in there. Tell me the main size and we can go from there.

Greetings:

Taz is correct. Uhh, wish I'd mentioned it.
The 78cc might need a 150 in the 28, not much bigger.
