Clearance to .012in, that should be fine

can someone help me out on this usually i just throw my cylinders away... but im starting to get a little collection. i dont have any experience with the whole honing process.. i have a 50mm cylinder i had honed, i put the new piston and rings in and the piston was very sloppy.. the piston gap is .013in ring gap is .124mm i never used the set up because of this.. was just looking at the original piston and realized the rings were 50.25mm.. so my question is as long as i got the piston gap i can use bigger rings to close the ring gap, and the play will go away?? i all ready wasted $50 on the new piston kit i just dont want to buy larger rings then find out still not gonna work.. how much larger do they make new rings??

also .012in is ideal piston gap what is the max gap for ring gap and piston gap??

So the original piston also measured 50.25mm also?

heres the spec's im working with:

original piston- 50.02mm
w/ 50.25mm rings

new piston- 49.94mm
w/ 50.00mm rings

bore on cylinder- 50.10

ive already had the cylinder slightly honed to clean it up from seiz... its bout 26 degrees out right now seemed like the longer i helded the thin pistons the more measurements changed, possibly why my measurements varied from earlier post..

The original rings shouldn't have fit if its that size. That means those rings got shaved to fit and maybe that's why you were having issues with that cylinder. That 50.10mm measurement,was that after you honed it?

yes after got honed....
