i checked the seal on the starter side. it's good. i can't figure out why my compression is so low so i scored another block for 30 bucks. hopefully i can have it together by middle of next week and see how she does.

Are there any scratches or score marks on this bore? Did you use a new head gasket when you installed it? There must be something your not seeing or is being overlooked to have such a huge compression lost or the gauge is now not working right. Did try another gauge? Or put a little oil in the spark plug hole then check compression to see if it comes up?
Nothing like getting stroked!

I agree. there's some reason why it has that low of compression. The bore looks good. and yes i had a new head gasket on. i didn't put any oil on the plug hole. i forget about that trick.

You would need to split the cases if you are going to port the intake cause the shavings get everywhere and you dont want that stuff inside the crankcase when you run the motor cause it can score the piston and cylinder walls

unless you have a crank tool it is difficult to get it pressed back together. It can be done but its not easy and you run the risk of damaging something

personally I wouldnt let lack of tools stop me you just have to use your head and take it easy. I used a rubber mallet and pieces of wood to put my cases back together :D or you could call around to some engine shops and see how much they would cahrge to press them back together once you enlarge the intake
